This Weeks Picks

Sunday, February 23, 2014

Now, with all the makeup that I have there is always going to be those products that shine brighter than others. But what's nice is that I rotate my products weekly so I can give myself the chance to use all my products equally. So I am going  start doing a post every Sunday of products that are going to be used for that week. Products that can be anything from nail polish, perfume, brushes, and books. Anything really that I want to start using more. I have already been trying to do this and it's been a successful method that allows me to give products a chance that were hidden in the drawer for too long. I want all of you guys reading this to try this method out and remember this does not apply to makeup or beauty related things it can be absolutely anything.
I picked both new and old products that I am going to use for this week.

1. Nars Sheer Glow Foundation
2. Chloe Perfume (love this scent)
3. Butter London Polish
4. Nars Limited Edition Cheek Palette in Foreplay

Let me know in the comments below what products that your going to put in the spotlight for this week.

Face of the Day

Its a shame that the weekend is already over, however, I got errands to run and prepare for another week. You know the usual.. go to the car wash, fill up gas, grocery shopping and blah blah blah more boring stuff. Unfortunately, I gotta look some what presentable and I thought I would share of my picks for my face makeup on this lovely Sunday.

1. Nyx tinted moisturize:
This product is a new release by nyx and so far I have been loving it. It's very moisturizing and gives very little coverage which is perfect for the those "no makeup" makeup days, like today.

2. Clinique all about eyes concealer:
I love Clinique. I find a lot of their products not harsh and benefit the skin rather than harm it and it has to do with the gentle ingredients they use in some of their products. The concealer I chose has a pink undertone and is perfect for canceling out any  discoloration under the eye.

3. I am not a big fan of eye shadow during the day but I have been obsessed with my recent purchase of the L'Oreal infallible pigment eye shadow in Bottomless Java. The color is deep brown with finely milled gold glitter and I know it sounds too much to wear during the day. However, if you apply a little of it on a fluffy brush all over lid it is BEAUTIFUL. The consistency is a like butter just glides so smoothly onto the lids.

4. The Balm blush in down boy:
Its a pinkish Barbie color and very pigmented so a little goes a long way. Its important to apply it with a light hand.

5. Maybelline Lash Stiletto Voluptuous Mascara in waterproof blackest black

6.CoverGirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm:
I don't know the name but its a deep purple color

The Body Shop: SkinCare

Saturday, February 22, 2014

Skin Care, Skin Care, and more Skin Care! For the past year, I have been obsessed with anything to do with  skincare. I do my research when I have the time about ingredients that are beneficial for the skin and ingredients that should be avoided. I haven't jumped on the all organic products yet, however, I am trying too. But as we all know, going all organic is easier said than done. Now, I can go on and on rambling about skincare products that I love and hate but I thought I just get to the point and let you know about The Body Shop skincare products that I have been using for the past 3 months and have seen great results using them.
 1. Facial Wash
2. Toner
3. Mask
4. Serum
5. Eye Cream

The Tea Tree Line

The tea tree skin care line is targeted for oily/ acne prone skin. Tea tree oil is an extract from the leaves of the tea tree, or paperbark tree, which grows only in Australia. Tea tree oil is effective at treating acne because it's antibacterial properties allow tea tree oil to kill the bacteria that cause acne. That is why The body shop has a great tea tree skincare regime from cleansers to masks that help treat and prevent acne. The products from this line that I tried are the facial wash, toner and mask. I am just about finished with these products and they have lasted for 3 months and they worked wonders for my skin. What is nice about this line is that it does not strip away the oils in my skin but rather balances it. My favorite product from this line would have to be the mask. I LOVE IT. I was using it once maybe twice a week depending on the condition of my skin that week. Over all, if you got oily/acne prone skin give these products a try because I am sure you will fall in love with this line, just as I did.

Additionally, my skin is loving the organic soothing serum and vitamin E eye cream. These products add hydration without leaving my skin or under eyes greasy because they sink into the skin beautifully.

I am currently on a new regime and I am seeing improvements in the quality of my skin after just three days, so keep your eyes out for that post coming soon. As always, leave any comments below about any concerns on what types of skin care products that will suit your specified skin type. I have tried many different lines and I'm happy to help!

Hope this helps...xo A

The Body Shop: Makeup

Thursday, February 13, 2014

This is going to be the first of three posts talking all about the body shop products that I own. I have been experimenting with the body shop makeup for a year now, so I am going to share some of my hits and misses in their makeup line.

Concealers: The body shop has three concealers and I have tried all of them. I just recently got their all in one concealer and I am in love with it, but I will talk more about that in another post about my top concealers. Ok, one of their concealers is the lightening touch concealer and it is supposed to be highlighting and have the same concept and packaging as the YSL Touche Eclat concealer, however, the YSL one is way better . First, the lightening touch concealer has poor coverage. Second, it does not highlight the way my Maybelline age rewind concealer does. So, for that, it is a complete miss because the drugstore has many brands that do a better job than this concealer. Even though the consistency is not cakey, I found myself using a lot more of the concealer just to get my desired coverage and that is a waste of money because you finish the product faster.
The other concealer is a jumbo pencil and this concealer is perfect for spot concealing blemishes, discoloration on the face, or redness around the nose. The coverage is medium and I would not recommend applying this under the eye just because it is a bit drying and you want a more hydrating product under your eyes so it won't settle into the creases. This concealer is a hit because the coverage is wonderful, the consistency is smooth, and it is very easy to blend.

Foundation: The body shop has three types of foundation the Extra Virgin Minerals, the oil free and the moisture foundations.
1. The Extra Virgin Minerals foundation: This foundation is a medium to buildable coverage. Its color selection ranges from pink undertones to neutral undertones. There is a strange scent to the foundation but not that overpowering. I find the consistency of this foundation to apply very seamlessly onto the face and it gives a satin finish. This foundation by far is my favorite and days where I don't use my Nars sheer glow foundation  I have been reaching for this.

2. Oil free foundation: This foundation caters to those who have oily to maybe combo skin. It is super full coverage and kind of heavy if you apply more than one application. Overall, this foundation is a thumbs up for me and I usually reach for this foundation on nights where I want a good full coverage foundation that is long wearing. Now, the color selection might be a issue for some just because they do not have the best selection catering to those who have yellow or olive undertones. However, I have two different colors of this foundation and mix the both to get my true skin color.

3.Moisture foundation: I actually just recently purchased this foundation and have been using it for two weeks and so far it is been nice. Color selection is the same as the oil free foundation, not the best. It has a light to buildable coverage and I know many compared this to the Nars sheer glow foundation. I own that foundation and the finish and concept is the same but that is the extent to the comparison. I feel as though many assume because the Nars foundation is named "sheer" and "glow" that it does not have the best coverage and is not long wearing but to the contrary it is the opposite it has great coverage and leaves a beautiful satin finish to the face. However, The body shop moisture foundation gives a very dewy and fresh look almost as a tinted moisturizer would do. If you want a foundation that is light and you have dry to normal skin than this foundation might just be worth checking out.

Bronzers: I feel that the body shop nailed the bronzers category. They have a great selection of both matte and shimmery sun kissed bronzers to choose from.
1.The baked to last bronzer n 01 is AH-MAZING. Although this can act as both a highlighter and bronzer, the finish this gives  as a bronzer is beautiful. Because  of the simmer it has I apply this lightly all over the face and it gives both color and a sun kissed glow to the face.
2. Honey Bronze bronzing Powder is a fairly new purchase and it is already one of my faves. What is really nice is that this bronzer is matte and natural looking. I have the shade in 02 fair matte and it does not look muddy or orange on the face it is just beautiful all over bronzer. I most definitely recommend this to those with fair skin because it has a great selection of shades for contouring or just a beautiful all over color to the skin.

Hope this help and btw The Body Shop is always having deals so wait until they have 50% off if you are thinking of trying out some of their makeup.

Liebster Award

Saturday, February 8, 2014
So in the past week we were fortunate enough to be nominated for three Liebster's award so we decided that we should do all three of them to show our appreciation. We are actually going to not follow the rules and adjust it because we wanted to complete all of them. We are going to complete all of them in one blog post. At the end we are not going to nominate anyone because we want to invest time and actually nominate eleven people we believe deserve it so for now we are going to avoid that section.

So the first one is going to be from Cristina. Her blog is called my cup of tea, Thank you so much for the nomination.
1. What's your favorite lipstick?
Unfortunately we don't have a favorite lipstick because we love so many. But our favorite brands are Estee Lauder, Mac, and Loreal. At the moment those brands are the lipsticks that we have been grabbing the most.
2.What's your biggest regret regarding a beauty product? (Like, something you regret buying!)
I think that would have to be BadGal Lash Mascara by benefit. At the time there was a large hype going around the beauty community stating that this was an AMAZING mascara but the mascara was just not up to my expectation. The mascara clumped to much and ruined my eyelashes when I used it.

Yes we do. The last book that I read was The Fifth witness by Michael Conley.
4.What's your favourite song at the moment?

5.Do you prefer earphones or headphones?
Earphones because it is easier to carry around!
6.Do you wear the same bag often or do you have different bags for different occasions (and outfits)?
I wear the same bag often because if Im going to classes or work I don't have time in the morning to change my bag depending on an outfit. But if I have an occasion like a night out I tend to change my bag depending on what Im wearing.
7. What's your favourite drugstore brand?
I think my favorite drugstore brand at the moment is Loreal.
8.If you could live somewhere else, where would you be?
I think anywhere in Europe like Spain or England!
9. What hobbies do you have besides blogging?
I enjoy cooking if Im not blogging, studying or working!
10. Whats your favorite food?

Its wedding season now! So I have tons of friends who are getting married in the next couples of months so I have that to look forward too!!:)

1) Why did you decide to start your blog?

I think that would have to be when we went to Dubai in the winter it was just an all-around great trip!
 6) What is your favorite TV series and why?
Revenge, Suits, The Bachelor(Juan Pablo ;))! We have alot more than that! They are just great shows to watch in your spare time!
7)What hobbies do you have besides blogging?
I enjoy cooking or traveling!
 8) Who is your favorite retailer (it can be highstreet or online) ?

No not at the moment!
 11) Whats your favorite item in your wardrobe?
Probably my Kate Spade bag that I just purchased!

1)What brand of hair tools do you use?
NuMe is what we use currently!

Current love: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure

Tuesday, February 4, 2014

There is nothing worse about nail polish, than when it chips!  I absolutely hate when I apply nail polish and than go wash dishes and later find out that the polish chipped. How about when I reapply more and than do another low maintenance task, such as organizing my book shelf and later find out that it chipped AGAIN. Honestly, at that point, I'm too annoyed and bothered to care anymore. Here's the surprising thing, its an Essie polish that chips on my nails usually. Yup, the very popular Essie polishes chip like every other nail polish from the drug store to high-end. Unless you get a gel manicure, your polish will eventually chip. The question is how long will it not? Although I love my Essie polishes, I have found a polish that deserves my attention more... The Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure line. Sally Hansen really impressed me with this particular line because the formula of the polishes are everything you want in a polish: opaque, great consistency, long wearing, large brush application, and a wonderful color selection.

The polish claims to act as a Base Coat, Strengthener, Growth Treatment , Color, Top Coat, Chip-Resistant,  and Gel Shine. All you need is one application of the polish and your good to go, but sometimes I like to apply a second coat for luck. These polishes retail for around the same price as an Essie or an OPI polish. However, I found that I like the overall finish of these polishes more. At times, I wont even apply a top coat and it lasts chip-free for 3 days (that is impressive). For that, the claim that it is chip resistant, a top coat, base coat, and gel shine are all true.

The picture above are my top four polish's that I have been wearing non-stop:

1. Sheer me now ( nude-ish color and my most reached for)
2. Back to the Fuchsia
3. Please sea me
4. Gray T escape

Do Primers really work??

Monday, February 3, 2014

Ok, here it goes... Primers, do they really work?! Well, it all depends on what you are looking for in a primer. Do you want it to prolong your makeup, mattify your skin , minimize the appearance of pores, or add glow (shimmer) to the face. So yes, primers do work! It just all depends on what your looking for. Primers claim to do a lot, however, they can only do so much. I have been experimenting with different types of primers the last couple of months and I can say that there are some great primers out on the market both high end and drugstore. However, in my opinion if your foundation does not have good lasting power, than the primer won't do much for you. But if your looking for a primer that is targeted to minimize the appearance of large pores or to mattify your skin than yes, I think investing in a good primer is well worth it.  So I rounded up some of my favorites that I will most definitely repurchase when I am out of and some not so favorites.

1. Laura Mercier Oil Free Primer:
This primer does contain silicone, so if you are allergic to silicone than this might not be for you. I know when I went to Sephora the lady told me that it does not contain silicon. However, I later found out that it has an ingredient in it called "dimethicone" which is a silicone oil. Over all, this primer does a great job at mattifing my skin before I apply my foundation. I do recommend that you wait 3 minutes after you apply it to allow it to set into the skin.

2. Smashbox Photo finish primer :
I love this primer. I have a travel size of it and I will be purchasing the full size soon. It really smooth's out the skin and mattifies it as well. When I apply it, it feels as if there's a layer over the skin and also what's great is you don't have to wait for it it to set. Because it dries immediately and I apply my foundation right away and it goes on seamlessly. If you cant tell already, I am really loving this primer ALOT.

3. Nars Radiance Enchaning Light Optimizing Primer Broad Spectrum SPF15:
I like that the primer is oil-free and has SPF 15.  However, everyday use it's not a primer I reach for because it is designed to enhance the skin’s luminosity and I try to stay away from products that add glow to my skin. This is because I have oily to combo skin and that is why you should pass on this primer if you don't like luminosity.

4. Pixi Poreless and flawless primer:
This primer is fleshed colored and is sold I believe only at target, as far as I know. If you have a problem with large pores, this does a great job at filling them in so when you apply your foundation it will smoothly go over it without sinking into the pores and accentuating them more. Benefit as well has the Professional primer that does the same job as this one.

5. No 5 Beautifully Matte:
This primer is sold at target and easily available in the UK in boots. Ok, if you have dry skin STAY away from this primer it is very drying. I have oily skin and I do not apply this all over the face. I only apply this primer in my T-Zone area and it mattifies it wonderfully.

6. Urban Decay Setting Sprays:
I  am a big fan of setting sprays. I really notice the longevity of my makeup when I use them. My sister N broke out from them, so if have very sensitive skin you might as well. What is nice about these setting sprays is that there is something for everyone. If you want a spray to prolong makeup, add luminosity, or control oil they are all available  it just depending on your skin type.

My final thoughts on primers:

Id rather invest on a foundation that has great lasting power, such as the Estee Lauder Double wear foundation (lasts over 12 hours on me and I have oily skin).  Honestly, primers are more of luxury  than a necessity because it is just an extra step in your makeup routine. I do not wear primers on a daily basis because I expect my fountain to do that job already.

LA Splash Eyeshadow Review!

Sunday, February 2, 2014

Eyeshadows for me are not something I usually grab on a daily basis. My makeup routine is pretty natural because honestly I just am not a full on makeup gal. But there are days that I do need to glam it up a notch so adding eyeshadow will immediately make your makeup look more sophisticated for something like a night out. So these five eyeshadows are products that I think are a bang for your buck. There are many different types of eyeshadow brands from high to low end and I do think some are worth the price and others not so much.

The LA splash eyeshadows price range at around 4-6 dollars a pot and are found at Ulta. All four eyeshadows are pigmented well with finely milled glitter which is great because to me I dont like large glitter flakes on my eye lids. The consistency of the eyeshadows are smooth and their stay power is quite good for a powder eyeshadow(stays on for an entire night and if you place an eye primer your guaranteed it does which I totally recommend). Okay the first eyeshadow is a glittery white color, I think this is great to highlight under the eyebrow arch and near the tear-duct area (which is the inner corner of the eye). This honestly is just a great highlighter color on the eye to give it a pop of shimmer. The black eye shadow is as shimmery as the rest which means its great to create a dramatic smokey eye or if you are not in to that you can use it as a powder black liner under the eye. (Also they all blend really well if you are creating a smokey eye). The third and honestly my favorite color is this dark purple color, it is great to wear all over the lids because it has great pigmentation . Also this would be a great color for spring and summer which means Ill be using it more often . The blue color is a nice dark navy color, which I used with the black eyeshadow and created a nice look from those two.The last color is a burnt red color( shows up as orange in the picture but isnt that color) which adds a pop of color in days that you need it.

So there is my review for my LA splash collection. If you are like me and like to keep it nice and simple but at times need to create an eyeshadow look this is the right brand to do so. They are not to expensive to dent your bank account but at the same time good enough to create a stunning look!

What's In My Makeup Bag?!

As much as I would love to bring all my makeup with me, that's just not realistic. So when I press that snooze button to many times, and find myself with little or no time to put on makeup, my makeup bag is my life saver. I routinely change what's in my bag depending on my daily routine of choice and currently I have been going for a "natural" and simple look. I am all about putting on light face makeup, a touch of cream shadow that brightens the eyes, and lots of lots of lashes. I have been putting Vaseline on my lashes every night and they have grown tremendously and its made putting on mascara the best part of my routine.

If I am running late, I don't bother putting on makeup until I reach where ever I need to be. Then, I'll take my makeup bag out of my purse and first apply Lorac CC cream. Skip all the  brushes, when you are in a rush your hands are the best way to go and I just massage the cc cream quickly all over my face (it gives a light to medium coverage) and If I need more coverage I take the Balm concealer in medium and conceal problem areas. Next, I conceal under my eyes and set all my face makeup with Rimmel Stay Matte powder in 01 translucent with a small kabuki brush. I am obsessed with the Maybelline 24 hr color tattoos I own every color in them. The crème shadows are very affordable considering the longevity and pigmentation of the shadows. Currently I have been using the shadow in 55 inked in pink ( a shimmery pink) and I apply it with my ring finger all over my lids. Lastly, I apply a waterproof mascara, a nude eyeliner in water line, and a nude lipstick on my lips

When your in a rush, having a makeup bag that has products that are easy to use and touch up during the day with, such as blotting sheets and concealer will make your day stress free and you can press that snooze button comforted that you got everything in your makeup bag in case you have to rush out.

Products used:

2. The Balm Concealer in medium $18

Let's Talk Highlighters

Sigh.. Highlighters, I have a hate and love relationship with them. I must say that sometimes highlighters are my least favorite step of my makeup routine. However, recently I found myself grabbing these three highlights more than ever. I do believe, that depending on the brand and type of highlighter it really makes a huge difference on the finish and how it looks on the skin. There are many highlighters out there both high end and drugstore that leave chunks of glitter on my cheekbones and although having disco ball cheeks might suit others, for everyday wear I'd pass on that.

So here are my most reached highlighters:

1. Lorac Tantalizer highlighter and matte bronze duo: Picked this up at Ulta and it retails for $12 (P.S. use the $3.50 off 10.00 coupon if your going to purchase it and that notches it down to $8.50...not bad)

2. Sleek Makeup Contour Kit in Light: I love this highlighter it is so finely milled which makes it look so natural when applied to the cheeks. This product retails for $9.99

3. The Body shop bronzer/highlighter in 02 Warm Glow: This is a dupe for MAC's skin finish in soft in gentle. I love this highlighter because it gives warmth and a natural glow to the skin . This product retails for $22 but the body shop is always doing sales and actually right about now the entire site is 40% and free shipping with a minimum of $15.  So go snag yourself that highlighter for $13.00

So.. there you have it, my most reached highlighters. Let me know in the comments below your top highlighters so I can check them out while I am on a highlighter loving mood!

Face of the Day

Saturday, February 1, 2014

It's Saturday, so I'm all about giving my face a break on the weekends. However, running errands and what not, calls for me to slap on something on my face and look presentable to the public lol. Unlike my younger sister K who can embrace no makeup days, I like to put something on. First, foundation and before I get the "oh why not wear a BB cream or tinted moisturizer" let me explain. I picked Estee Lauder Double wear, which is one of the few foundations that will last on me for over ten hours and still look flawless.  Now,  high coverage foundations are the way to go because you can add half a pump of foundation and some moisturizer and there you go...a tinted moisturizer. My next favorites are:
1.  Maybelline instant age rewind concealer in light pale
2.  smash box photo op eye brighter mascara
3.  Shu Uemura eye lash curler
4. LA Splash illuminating eye shadow in #19206 Illumination (burnt red color)
5. Finally Estee lauder lipstick in 01 crystal baby crème (great everyday nude color)

Thanks for reading! And here is a  40% off 1st Tasting Box from Love with Food, which delivers 8 healthy snacks right to your door!  Essential for anyone who loves snacking.

So today I decided to make a food post and I decided what better to make and write about then scrumptious crepes. Omg crepes is my all time weakness and honestly to me it is like a thin pancake that could be made sweet or savory. For me I like my crepes with nutella and bananas or strawberrys, depending on the time of day you could add icecream or whipcream to it. So to start the process I took out all the ingredients I needed and the utensils. Also this recipe should make about 8 to 10 crepes!
 1. In a mixing bowl I added 1 cup of floor to 2 eggs.
 2. Adding slowly I added 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of milk while mixing slowly so it incorporates.
 3. Then I added 2 tsps. of melted butter and 1 tsp of vanilla extract.
 4. For more flavoring I like to add a pinch of nutmeg and a pinch of vanilla.
 5. After I mixed all the ingredients well so there was no clumps in the batter.
 6. In a non-stick pan I lighted oiled it, to insure the crepes don't stick. I kept the heat at medium to high heat.
 7. I slowly added a thin layer of the batter to cover the entire pan then I flipped it when the sides were cooked. It should take about 2 minutes for a crepe to cook.
 8. After the crepe is cooked, you can add any condiment you would like!
